If you had 8 days offline? Imagine living in Silicon Valley and then it happens. The unthinkable. You started losing the technological creature comforts of the modern world. No email. No Web. No computer games. You know.... Like if it was 1982 all over again. What could you get done if you had no access to the Internet?
This is the story of my 8 days offline. I’ll share what I was able to accomplish in that short time, and how it changed my life. It is a story with this moral: when technology fails, we turn to our fellow humans and rely upon them.
It is here where human fellowship and superhuman heroism occurs. It is caring people, driven by personal friendship or professional customer service skills, that make all the difference in the world.
Each of us has a story of what life was like when we lost our “plugged in” feeling. Some accident or incident that jarred us out of the day-to-day patterns. It is in this jarring where we truly take stock of what is important. With time away from our schedules, we can profoundly reflect on our lives, and, in due time, re-engage in our existance in whole new ways.
Imagine what we might do if we only unplugged ourselves for 8 days. What would you do?
If you have a story of your own “8 days offline” (even if it was only a day, or a month, or a year or more), or what you would do if this situation occured to you right now, share your thoughts here. If your story is compelling enough, you may even be invited as a regular contributor to 8 Days Offline!
